Taroom is bustling
SEPTEMBER seems to be a busy month for the small town of Taroom, with plenty of events keeping locals busy.
Banana Shire councillor Terri Boyce lives in Taroom and says it’s great to see it so lively.
“There are lots of events at the moment,” she said.
“We had the music festival last weekend. The music was great and the people that didn’t go missed out on some great music.
“And there was a bowls carnival on the weekend as well.”
This weekend will be even bigger, featuring the Taroom Dawson River Festival, which coincides with the art show and the Taroom Cup.
“It is a big weekend for Taroom, one of the biggest events of the year other than the show,” Cr Boyce said.
“And it’s good to see a lot of locals turn up and support those events – a lot of time and effort goes in from volunteers.”
Big crowds are expected for both events this weekend.
“The races will be big but not as big as the New Year’s Eve races, and the art show is a reunion for a lot of people to come home for,” Cr Boyce said.
“You know you are going to run into a lot of people, so it is a good reason to come back and catch up.”
WHO WILL WIN? The 1930 Taroom Cup.
