AVOID SWOOP­ING

You can min­imise the risk of be­ing swooped by:

■ Get­ting to know where the birds are breed­ing in your area and try to avoid them;

■ Be­ing aware that open ar­eas with tall trees are likely sites to en­counter the birds;

■ Us­ing an um­brella, wear­ing a hat and sun­glasses;

■ Keep­ing an eye on them, as the birds are less likely to swoop while you are watch­ing them;

■ If you are rid­ing a bike, get off and walk through hot spots; ■ If you are rid­ing a bike, at­tach ca­ble ties to your hel­met;

■ Don’t fight back and never ha­rass or pro­voke mag­pies as this may lead to more ag­gres­sive be­hav­iour;

■ If the area is un­avoid­able, en­sure you es­cort young chil­dren through any hot spots or walk in groups.
