BULLS AND BIKES FOR THEODORE
(inset) first question when she moved to Theodore three years ago was, “when is the rodeo on?”
She had lived in small country towns before so was taken back when the locals informed her there hadn’t been a rodeo in the area for around 20 years.
“Well you can’t have a small town without a rodeo,” Bronwyn said on hearing the news.
From there Bronwyn became a part of the TECCA committee.
On joining she found that volunteers always felt like they were donating their time through bake sales
and other small fundraisers.
“I thought why don’t we just have one big fundraiser a year,” Bronwyn said. “That way we are only asking for help once a year.”
And so was born Theodore’s Bulls And Barrels Bonanza in 2017.
The first year of the rodeo saw crowds in excess of 1000 people and the committee hopes that this year will see close to double that.
“Organising has been going really well,” Bronwyn said.
“We are expecting a bigger crowd then we had last year.
“Last year we expected 600 people to turn up and we ended up with 1200 but this year we just have to ramp that up as we aim for a crowd of 2000.
“Last year locals said it was probably the biggest event they had seen in Theodore,” she said.
“Then they had the event where the Broncos
came to town not long after us and that exceeded that.
“Now we are hoping to exceed those numbers.”
This year the committee has added in extra events in hopes to appeal to a wider audience.
As well as the bulls and barrels there will also be freestyle motocross bikes on show and a monster truck which will offer kids free rides.
“Putting the motorbikes in allowed us to sell it across a lot wider scope I suppose,” Bronwyn said.
“So the people who weren’t really interested in the rodeo side of things would come for the motor bikes and vice versa.
“We also like to do a free entertainment for the kids,”
“So once they pay their gate admission they can
try out the jumping castles, big slides and other rides as well.”
NEW COMMITTEE: Jo Pickham (vice president), Jessica Scotney (grants co-ordinator), Leah Hewitt (secretary), Alyce Shoecraft (treasurer) and Jessica Weimar (president) hold new positions on the committee which organises the annual Theodore rodeo.
