Relay success

Chinchilla News - - OPINION -

THANK you to the local community for supporting the 2014 Chinchilla Relay for Life. So far we have raised almost $40,000 to go towards research and support of all cancer sufferers. A special thank you to the 100 survivors and carers who opened the event for us and were not deterred by the threat of rain. Lorna and her dedicated group of Cancer Council ladies did a magnificent job honouring them at the survivors/carers afternoon tea. Entertainment co-ordinator Trudi Webster is to be congratulated for keeping everyone awake and enthused with an array of activities and we thank all the community organisations that gave their time to showcase their talents. Congratulations also to those teams that decorated their sites so well and participated in the themed laps with enthusiasm. We would have loved to have given prizes to every single team as everyone added to the spirit of the event. Community organisations such as Bulldog Park, SES, Apex, WDRC and Rotary’s contributions as well as many local businesses cannot be understated. We thank them for their support. With only six months notice the hardworking Chinchilla Relay for Life Committee managed to pull this event together working around a very busy local community schedule. Plans are afoot next year to move the event to earlier in the year and into warmer weather. We invite you to join us at the Chinchilla Relay for Life in 2015. Cheryl Henningsen
