Couple thankful for rules chance

Chinchilla News - - LIFE -

DISAPPOINTED was not a word Maddi and Lloyd used to describe how they felt after being eliminated from House Rules on Tuesday night.

The Townsville couple, who represented Queensland in the Channel 7 reality show, said they were thankful for how far they had made it in the competition.

“We’re not disappointed, just really stoked we were chosen and be the only couple in Queensland to get that far,” Maddi said.

“We walk away with a fully renovated house inside and out, we’re just lucky.”

One of their biggest challenges was when the couple moved away from a house’s interior to work in the garden, Maddi said.

“It was incredibly hard,” she said.

“We had five houses to practice on and to build-up our skills and then we moved to gardens where we don’t have any experience.

“We were thrown in the deep end.”

Maddi and Lloyd were applauded for their decision to extend the back deck of Adam and Lisa’s home in Melbourne to accommodate alfresco dining and an existing tree.

The Townsville duo finished last in the second semi-final after their efforts in the Victorian team’s backyard failed to impress judges, Joe Snell and Wendy Moore, who gave them a combined score of 12 points.

“I think you guys had the beginning of a really wonderful garden,” House Rules judge Wendy Moore said.

“But you didn’t quite follow through.”

Fellow judge Joe Snell said the layout was poor, particularly the brick path dividing the lawn which was “OTT” (over the top).

Meanwhile Lloyd said it was also difficult to follow the other contestants’ house rules at times.

“You think you’re on the right track but then the judges come in and it’s the complete opposite,” Lloyd said.

“Maddi and I would try to be creative and try to follow the rules down to a tee but sometimes it didn’t work in our favour.”

During the competition the couple became good friends with Melbourne team Adam and Lisa, Maddi said.

“Adam and Lisa were our absolute best friends in the competition so we’re crossing our fingers they win it,” she said.

The couple wouldn’t hold back if they had the chance to renovate again.

“We’ve got the taste for it now,” Maddi said.
