Sunday Social – Thirty players on the green playing for meat trays, sponsored by Bowls Club. Winners – Bill Hobbs, Brian Littleproud, Kathy Obst; R/u – Kath Mohr, Fuzzy McCullough, Peter Bellgrove. Even on points at the bell, Kathy’s team winning by 2 shots on a countback.
Championships : Handicap singles – Gerard Bellgrove (-12) def Peter O’Dea (+6) 31-17.
Chinchilla the venue for the Champion of Champions Fours Competition, with teams from Dalby, North Dalby, Jandowae, Taroom, Tara and Chinchilla doing battle.
In the morning matches, Dalby def Jandowae 33-11; Chinchilla def Tara 32-8.
Down to the semi-finals, North Dalby were too consistent for Dalby, scoring 12 shots in the first 6 ends to put themselves in a strong position to go into the final and finished the game 26-16.
Chinchilla were up against a young side from Taroom in the other semi. Scores were even at 7-all and 8-all, ten ends to play, Chinchilla scored 8 shots to 1 over the next 4 ends, up 16-9, and went on to win 21-16.
Final – Chinchilla (Peter Jones, Garry Reardon, Kingsley Obst, Brian Turner), verses North Dalby (Woody Flynn, Wazza Kussrow, Scott Roser, Ian Hickey).
What a game. Chinchilla looked like winners from the outset leading 7-0 from 3 ends, then 12-5 after 8.
North Dalby dug in and came back to 12-13, Chinchilla again stepped away to lead18-12, 6 ends to play.
North Dalby weren’t ready to go home yet, scoring a 2-4-1 to hit the front for the first time at 19-18, 3 ends left. Chinchilla scored a 2, North Dalby a single to tie up a great match at 20-all, one end to play.
North Dalby were holding 2 shots with Turner last bowl of the game and drew the absoluter for the Championship for Chinchilla to win 21-20, and the right to go to Goondiwindi for the Group 3 championships.
Gerard and Peter Bellgrove are at Jandowae this weekend for the COC A pairs.
They won this last year and are proving to be a deadly combination. Good luck boys.
This Sunday is Cancer Awareness Day at Chinchilla Bowls Club.
A charity afternoon in aid of cancer – names by noon (2 bowlers and 2 non bowlers per team) or can be all non bowlers, play at 12.30pm.
Put in a team of 4 or just nominate individually and the club will put you in teams.
