Charges laid after break-in
MILES locals were furious to wake on Saturday morning to find Miles Golf Club had been broken into overnight. But the incident gave police the evidence they needed to bring a series of break-and-enters in town to an end.
A search warrant executed on a Miles residence on Sunday uncovered liquor as well as furniture, a television and other stolen goods taken from premises since February, amounting to $1000 in total value.
Miles police officer-in-charge Sergeant Ben Wiltshire said the occupants of the house, a 25-year-old Miles man, a 19-year-old Miles man and a 19-year-old Barcaldine man were charged with nine break and enter offences.
“Three men have been charged with nine charges of break and enters (occurring) over the last couple of months,” Sgt Wiltshire said.
“The men stole a large amount of liquor from the golf club and caused a fair bit of damage, (the accused) kicked in a wall, damaged a cash register and a window and locks on cupboards in the cold room.”
Two of the men will front Chinchilla Magistrates Court on June 9, while the third will appear on June 25.
