‘Rename Parklands’

Chinchilla News - - NEWS -

THE Chinchilla Horticultural Society conducted its annual general meeting last Saturday, July 8, and the following executives were all re-elected.

The president is Lindsay Marsden, vice-president is Ray Walters, secretary is Yvonne Wolski, treasurer is Daphne Taylor and the patron is Moreen McIntyre.

Our monthly general meeting followed and much discussion took place about the Western Downs Regional Council’s proposal to develop the old railway reserve into parkland.

The members unanimously endorsed a motion supporting the suggestion that the new area be called Chinchilla Pioneer Park (or Parklands).

By being so named, the area would feature a wall where present-day descendants of the pioneers of Chinchilla Shire could record the names of our original pioneers.

Our members are looking forward to the expected community consultation meetings which we believe are imminent.

Next week we will bring you details of our Chinchilla Garden Competition, weather permitting.
