RUGBY LEAGUE: The Miles Devils are through to this year’s grand final after a hard-fought victory over the Wallumbilla Surat Red Bulls on the weekend.

Despite conceding the first try of the game, the Devils fought back hard to take a 10-6 lead into the half-time break.

The Red Bulls hit back midway through the second half to regain the ascendency, before Raiden Vankirk produced some late fancy-footwork to hand the Devils the final try of the game to give them a 18-12 victory.

Devils captain-coach Jamie Kerwick was happy with his side’s performance, and hopes the team can reproduce that form this Sunday.

“We’ll try not to do anything different, hopefully we can capitalise on our good performances; I still don’t think we’ve played our best game yet,” Kerwick said.

Roma has been the standout team all season, but Kerwick has been around long enough to know that anything can happen in a grand final.

“It’s going to be a battle of the forwards, so we need to keep the middle tight and keep their big men under wraps,” he said.

“It might come down to the luck of the day, we just need to play with emotion and anything can happen.

“It doesn’t matter how good you’ve been throughout the year; it’s how you play on the day.

“If you show up with a positive attitude anything is possible... I’m confident we can come away with the win.”

The grand final kicks off at 3.20pm in Roma this Sunday.

TOO GOOD: The Miles Devils were able to get the better of the Wallumbilla-Surat Red Bulls in a hard-fought encounter on the weekend to book their place in this year’s grand final.
