Farmers combat wild pigs
THE Chinchilla East Pest Management Group is organising a co-ordinated aerial shoot to combat wild pigs and are asking for expressions of interest from local landholders.
The shoot will cover about 82,000ha from south of Wondai Rd to east of Chinchilla along Tara Rd and around Brigalow, Warra and Kogan.
Subsidised by the Western Downs Regional Council, the shoot is aimed at decreasing the number of wild pigs, which will reduce the damage being caused to agricultural land in the area.
Acting co-ordinator Lisel Dingley said feral pig numbers could increase fivefold in a year and, based on previous shoots, landholders could expect to be charged about 21 cents per hectare of land.
“We will shoot across a number of days and we will work with landholders for safety purposes to work out the best times with least impact to activities on the property,” she said.
“We’re trying to get out there and get something happening.”
Landholders interested in taking part should contact Ms Dingley via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
