Facebook helps snap thieves

WHEN Roma photographer Samantha Allwood’s camera bag and equipment went missing last week, she had little hope she would ever see them again.

However, thanks to the diligence of the Roma police and community assistance, the items have been returned to their rightful owner, albeit a little dusty.

Mrs Allwood said if it wasn’t for the efforts from police and the community, plus a lucky spot on social media, there may have been a different outcome.

“It was just lucky that I happened to scroll through Facebook and I noticed that in photos from the league on Sunday there were two boys in the background with my camera bag.”

A report from a witness helped confirm the identity of the males and police were able to recover the equipment.

Roma acting officer in charge Cian Jacobs said the recovery of the items and following arrest of the two accused was the result of a concerted effort between police and the community.
