Chinchilla News - - NEWS -

CHINCHILLA News held its annual footy tipping lunch at the Club Hotel last Friday to celebrate a great season of NRL football.

About 14 people attended the exclusive event, with everyone putting aside their competitive nature for an enjoyable day.

This year’s winner of the tipping competition was Clinton ‘Big Show’ Smith of Gleesons Quality Meats, who finished on 258 points.

Clinton received a trip for two to the grand final in Sydney on Sunday, October 1, with the prize including flights, accommodation and match tickets.

Clinton has been a long-time competitor in the Chinchilla News footy tipping, but said there was no formula to being a good tipster.

“There’s no secret really, it depends which team turns up on the day,” Clinton said.

“Though it does help knowing which players are in and out, and watching a few of the games so you know who is playing well.”

Clinton noted he had been following footy since he was a young boy and supported both the Broncos and Cowboys.

Although despite his years of knowledge, he didn’t expect to do as well as he did.

“I didn’t expect to win... but it is nice to be the winner.”

Clinton won the Chinchilla News Footy Tipping competition by six points, narrowly holding out Marnie Ringe of Drake IGA, who finished second.

Third place was tied by Shannon McDermott of Enzed and Daniel Lowder of Landmark on 246 points.

The wooden spoon prize this year went to Daniel Richards from Richo’s Roofing.

The day also featured multiple raffles to keep guests entertained.

The lunch was hosted by Chinchilla News site supervisor Bobbie Gorring, who was chuffed with the turnout.

“It was great to see so many tipsters coming along to the lunch,” Bobbie said.

“On behalf of Chinchilla News, I’d like to thank all of the tipsters who donated prizes for the raffles that ran throughout the event.

“Also a big thank you for the Club Hotel for their hospitality.”

Bobbie said that being involved in the footy tipping competition allowed tipsters to capture the community's interest.

“The footy tipping comp is a great way to engage with the readers and is a conversation starter amongst the tipster clients.

“They come into the stores and have a laugh with them if they have had a bad week in the tipping comp.”

Although the tipping competition is now over, the tipsters will try their luck during the finals series.

If you would like to know more about how to get involved in the 2018 tipping competition, phone Bobbie Gorring of Chinchilla News on 4672 9930.

It does help knowing which players are in and out, and watching a few of the games so you know who is playing well.
