Dash to glory at league trials
Students vie for spots in regional team
RUGBY LEAGUE: Students from around the region have had a chance show off their skills at the South West School Region under 15 and U18 trials in Chinchilla.
Students from Roma, Miles, Tara, Charleville, St George and beyond converged on the town for the day of selections on Monday.
NRL southwest general game development officer Grant Bignell said the best players would be selected to go to the Queensland school championships in May.
“They come, they’ll play multiple games and selectors and coaches will have a look and pick their sides from there and away we go,” he said.
For Bignell, the competition is a chance for students to get noticed.
“It’s a really good opportunity for these kids to go to a state carnival and get to play against all the other regions and potentially if they’ve got it within them to be recognised and noticed from those above.”
DASH FOR GLORY: Students from around the region compete in the southwest rugby trials on Monday.
