Compared with the Popular, the L’s spec was sumptuous: rectangular halogen headlamps (tungsten from 1978), reversing light, heated rear window, reclining front seats, cloth trim, carpets, rear parcel shelf, dipping rear-view mirror, door pockets, better ventilation and grab handles. Black sills, tailgate wiper, chrome bumpers, driver’s door mirror and bright window trims identified the L. Choice of 950 LC, 950 HC or 1100 engines, joined by 55 bhp 1100 Economy in 1982. Wider (145x12) tyres and alternator were standard; 1100L added brake servo and bigger battery.
