On a recent trip to Cornwall I spotted this ‘Capri’. It didn’t move the whole time we were there, and it’s not like any other Capri I’ve seen. I wonder if you have any knowledge of what market it was designed for, or if you’ve ever seen another?” Brad Hayes Email It’s a Mercury Capri and was manufactured in Australia between 1991-1994 mainly for the North American market, as a rival to the Mazda MX5. Much of the mechanicals were pinched from the Mazda 323 (including the 1600 twin-cam engine), and they also did a Capri XR2 with a turbocharged version of the same engine!

The Mercury Capri that Brad spotted in Cornwall was probably imported from the US.
