Serious rust is common in the sills, floorpan, strut tops, where the inner and outer wings meet, bulkhead, A-pillars, rear spring hangers, tailgate hinges and the front panel. More visible grot is likely on the front wings, rear arches, doors and scuttle. Genuine NOS panels are expensive — £600 for a wing — but pattern items and repair sections are available. Be aware though that it’s getting harder to find replacement bonnets, driver’s doors and front panels. Reproduction decals are available and they’re a common telltale of a car that’s seen work, many owners incorrectly lining them up on the swage line. Reproduction plastic door mirrors and bumpers are readily available.
