In the beginning Boreham north of Chelmsford was an orchard, which became a USAAF airfield in the 1940s. Later it was a racing circuit, then bought by Ford as a development/test/proving ground. The Motorsport department moved in, to new workshops, in 1963. Perhaps they were not production road cars, but Ford Motorsport built almost every works Cortina, Lotus Cortina, Escort Mk1, Escort Mk2, (some) Capris, Sierra RS Cosworth, the Escort RS Cosworth, and Puma Racing of the 1963-1996 period. The first were Mk1 Cortina GTs, the last were Puma Racings for European rallyng.
