The na­ture of a Homebuilt Hero lies in do­ing as much of the work as pos­si­ble your­self — although that doesn’t al­ways mean ev­ery­thing… some­times an ex­change of skills is fac­tored in. “A mate of mine built the en­gine in re­turn for me build­ing him a shed,” says Davy. “I was more than happy to do it that way as there isn’t much he doesn’t know about build­ing a quick Pinto, as the dyno proves: 180 bhp and 175 lb.ft! He says I could get 200 if I changed the cam, which will prob­a­bly be on the cards in the fu­ture, along with throt­tle bod­ies…”
