The diff in my 1981 Cortina 1600 is whin­ing away but read­ing up, it seems like you need spe­cial tools to take it apart. Does any­one still do re­con rear axles for these? I bought this one In 1992!


We’re not sure. The Cortina diffs are built into the axle, not an Es­cort type re­mov­able unit and the cas­ing needs to be ‘spread’ to re­move it. Are you sure it’s not a half shaft bear­ing? Very few (if any) com­pa­nies do these now. We’d sug­gest a good used 2.0 axle: stronger and a higher ra­tio.
