CORRADO – 1989-96

Classics Monthly - - Marque Guide Volkswagen -

VW’s 1988-launched Corrado is definitely a classic in waiting and was originally conceived to replace the Porsche 944, a marque VW still enjoys a strong association with. Although the VR6 version was a driver’s delight, the Corrado was too expensive and didn’t sell well in the UK. Launched with the 1.8 litre 136bhp 16-valve inline-four (or 160bhp supercharged form in the G60 model, the Corrado’s excellent chassis could easily handle the extra power provided by the 190bhp 2.8 litre VR6 that joined the line-up in 1992.
