Logan ready for work

Cockburn Gazette - - NEWS -

FRAN Logan says he is confident he can balance life as the minister of two portfolios with his role as Cockburn MLA.

Fresh from claiming the state seat of Cockburn for a fifth time, Mr Logan was appointed Emergency Services Minister and WA’s new Corrective Services Minister in Premier Mark McGowan’s Cabinet last week.

Despite the two high-profile portfolios, Mr Logan said he could manage.

“There has to be a balance between the ministerial work and the electoral work,” he said.

“Taxpayers in Cockburn want to see you and they want you to address issues.

“I’m confident I can do it because I’ve done it before.”

Mr Logan said the two big issues confronting him were overcrowding in jails and recommendations from the Ferguson inquiry, which was held after the Waroona bushfires.

“I can’t just wander in, spend money and keep everybody happy,” he said.

“They’re complex issues that need to be addressed.”

Re-elected Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk was also named in the Cabinet, made Minister of Child Protection, Women’s Interests, Community Services and Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence.

Ms McGurk won Fremantle in 2013 and extended her popularity in the March 11 election to hold one of 41 Labor seats in the new State Government.

Kwinana MLA Roger Cook was named Deputy Premier, Minister for Health and Minister for Mental Health.

Fran Logan has been named Emergency Services Minister and Corrective Services Minister.
