Brave Tayla gets chop

Cockburn Gazette - - STREET WATCH -

A FIVE-year-old Bicton girl is proving there is no such thing as being too young to do a selfless deed for someone else.

Tayla Allen loves her long hair, but after seeing photos of children whose hair had fallen out due to cancer treatment, she made the decision to give it the snip and donate it to be made into a wig.

She will be supporting not one but two charities during next weekend’s big cut, with her hair to be donated to Variety, while her fundraising efforts will go to the Telethon Kids Institute.

Tayla’s mother Tegan said her family and friends could not be more proud of her decision to help those who need it.

“Tayla is really happy that she has been raising money to help children who need it.

“She is also excited that her hair will be made into a wig for someone, but at the same time she is nervous as she is only five years old and this is such a brave, selfless thing she is doing,” she said.

“Teaching our children to do selfless acts from a young age will hopefully teach them empathy and we also want to show them that little acts of kindness can go a long way.”

Tayla has already raised more than $2200 for the Telethon Kids Institute and will continue to fundraise until her hair is cut on March 26.
