Cockburn Gazette - - HEALTH WATCH -

HER role in front of the camera made her an international star but Hamilton Hill resident Jane Hitchcock has taken a different approach ahead of a local art exhibition.

Hitchcock’s distinguished modelling career saw her grace Vogue, Elle, Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar, among other high-profile publications, after scoring a break as a teen in New York in the late ‘60s.

Turning her hand to photography, she will be among 58 local artists featuring at Cockburn’s Show Off 13 art exhibition, starting this Saturday.

“I was delighted when local artist friends of mine encouraged me to be in the exhibition,” she said.

“I’ll be exhibiting the sophisticated, sensual, expressive life of flowers through my eyes with photography.

“I believe beauty connects us to love and that’s something everybody is happy to receive.”

Hitchcock said she was not nervous ahead of the exhibition, which will be held at the Memorial Hall.

“It’s all a part of the experience,” she said. “It should be fun.”

Hitchcock will be one nine first-time Show Off exhibitors, with her work to feature among more than 120 individual pieces.

Cockburn’s cultural development co-ordinator Cassandra Cooper said the exhibition showed the immense depth and breadth of artists who live and work in Cockburn.

“The artists participating come from a wide variety of artistic backgrounds with some of Western Australia’s most well-known and respected artists to new and emerging artists and everything in between,” she said.

“It is a very eclectic exhibition with works in a variety of media from oils to watercolour to stone, glass and rayon thread.

“The City is proud of its artist community and takes this opportunity to Show Off just a snapshot of the talented people who have chosen to live in our community.”
