SOMETIMES an artist needs to go beyond what they know and experience every day to get the biggest inspiration for their work.

For 12 WA women, this involved a trip to India for a sketching tour to explore the sights, sounds and experiences of another country.

The art and memories created on this trip are the inspiration for a new exhibition on display at the Moores Building Contemporary Art Gallery.

Fremantle artist Dawn Meader said it had proved to be an amazing experience.

“India has seeped into the souls of the women and out into their art,” she said.

“Their experiences, which were photographed and documented in their sketchbooks, have become the inspiration for a collection of works that will encompass painting, mixed media, print making and photography.”

The Spirit of Rajasthan exhibition is at the Moores Building Contemporary Art Gallery until September 3. Visit www.dawn
