Three bins for City

Cockburn Gazette - - OPINION -

RESIDENTS of Fremantle will have the new three-bin Food Organic Garden Organic (FOGO) system next year.

The proposed changes to the City’s waste service would be provided to 13,332 homes.

Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said the three-bin system would help the City achieve its 80 per cent community recycling rate by 2020.

This follows Melville’s waste trial, which has been running since October.

Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC) said the 7000 households involved in the $750,000 12-month experiment were doing well, with more than 66.5 per cent of all household waste diverted from landfill across the area.
