Bringing out the beards

Cockburn Gazette - - FRONT PAGE - Leah Roberts

FREMANTLE is calling out for anyone with eccentric face foliage to compete in the Best Beard Competition on Saturday, August 25.

In its second year there will be five categories judged: full beard, partial beard, mutton chops and alternative.

It is organised by the Ball and Chain, The Beard Society and The Fremantle Barber Co.

Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges marketing manager Abby McDowell said money raised from the competition would go to the Men’s Shed.

“Last year we had 13 competitors. This year we hope to see more entries in more categories so that we can give more money to Fremantle Men’s Shed,” she said.

“There were some great, long full beards last year, even one with a little pink bow, plus some great classic handle bar moustaches.

“The best entrants were those that went all out to style their outfit to match their facial hair.”

Beard Society member Tyron Fitzpatrick, who is also competing in the full beard category, said it was great to support a local cause.

Entry is $10. For more information and to enter, visit the Esplande Hotel Fremantle website.
