Girls in Dock­ers cup suc­cess

THE com­pe­ti­tion was fierce as the fu­ture stars of fe­male football com­peted for the 2018 Freo Dock­ers School­girls Cup.

Stu­dents from schools such as Yule Brook Col­lege, St Nor­bert’s Col­lege, Dar­ling Range Sports Col­lege and South­ern River Col­lege went toe to toe for the cov­eted cup, which was even­tu­ally won by Gov­er­nor Stir­ling Se­nior High School af­ter they beat a South­ern River Col­lege team which to that point had been un­de­feated.

South­ern River coach Re­nae Pau­nic said de­spite the 19-point loss, the team of 20 girls had done the school proud.

“Com­ing run­ner-up in the Dock­ers Cup is a great achieve­ment and the girls re­alise that they did re­ally well. I started work­ing with the team this year and I knew from the out­set that there was a lot of tal­ent to work with,” she said.

“It’s been great to see the team pull to­gether and go from strength to strength and I’m re­ally proud of what the girls have achieved in a short time.”

The South­ern River Col­lege girls football team came run­ners-up in the 2018 Dock­ers Cup.
