“Check out what’s on at Bunnings Bibra Lake”

Cockburn Gazette - - OPINION -

HAVING spent five days in being saved and recovering in Fiona Stanley Hospital, I sincerely hope the Immigration Minister and those responsible for inbound migration get themselves to one of our excellent hospitals and see for themselves just what we owe immigrants and how we staff our hospitals and with whom.

They will see many immigrants and new Australians working hard to keep us alive and healthy.

Australians certainly owe these wonderful people a big vote of thanks and appreciation and I, for one, wish to thank all the staff that helped me when I was seriously ill to get better.

This included the emergency department doctors, nurses and support staff and later in the recovery ward the doctors, nurses, anaesthetists, tea lady and the food providers.

Everyone was sensational, compassionate and very very professional.

Thank you again. THIS is just very wrong.

One morning I drove into Fremantle with a friend to have breakfast and watch a movie.

I paid $10.50 for 3.5 hours of parking in the central car park near the markets.

In fact I paid $11 but the meter swallowed one of my 50 cent coins without registering it.

When we arrived at the cinema we made a last minute decision to watch a different movie than we had planned.

I did not realise until too late that this was a 147minute long movie instead of the 81-minute movie we had planned to watch.

As a result we arrived back at the car a half-hour after my parking had expired (in fact, at 1.33pm) to find a (commission hungry?) parking inspectorhad issued me with a $50 fine.

The timing strongly suggests that they have been instructed to permit a halfhour leeway and he was waiting for that time to expire.

He beat me back by four minutes.

Is it any surprise that Fremantle town centre is dead most of the year, with many local businesses unable to afford their rent and rates, when the council imposes parking fees virtually 24-7 everywhere in Fremantle and employs an army of inspectors to enforce that by issuing fines ?

It’s much safer to go to Garden City to eat and watch a movie where the parking is free.

It’s not as if I was trying to evade my parking fee.
