Phoenix Coles to close shop
GROCERY competition in the Spearwood area will take a hit after Coles announced it will close its Phoenix Shopping Centre store next month.
A Coles spokeswoman said the store will close its doors on Friday, October 12 at 6pm.
“Coles regularly reviews its portfolio of supermarkets to ensure we have the right stores in the right locations for our customers,” she said.
“We thank customers for their loyalty to the Spearwood store and want to assure the local community that we are committed to offering service at our nearby supermarkets at Beeliar, South Lakes and Kardinya.
“All 57 team members from the Spearwood store are able to keep their job at Coles and will be given the option to transfer to a nearby Coles store.”
Shoppers took to social media after the news.
“So sad. My favourite shop. Some of the staff watched my children grow up and now I take my grandies there,” one wrote.
“Sad that it’s closing… not too big, not too small, not overly crowded and wonderful staff; a good shopping experience and so local to us, I’ve been shopping there since I was a kid with my parents,” said another.
