In re­sponse to Aus­tralian statis­tics that showed women ac­counted for 32 per cent of pro­duc­ers, 23 per cent of writ­ers and 16 per cent of direc­tors within the Aus­tralian sec­tor of the film and tele­vi­sion in­dus­try, Screen Aus­tralia launched the Gen­der Mat­ters ini­tia­tive to pro­vide an “ex­press lane” to fe­male busi­ness ideas, dis­tri­bu­tion op­por­tu­ni­ties and sto­ries. As part of this, the Bril­liant Sto­ries Fund is of­fer­ing up to AU$100,000 for fea­ture fic­tion films to move a project from con­cept to­wards pro­duc­tion; AU$50,000 for scripted tele­vi­sion to de­velop an in­ven­tive con­cept of any genre; and AU$50,000 for scripted online and in­ter­ac­tive to en­able teams to re­alise their unique and com­pelling story con­cepts. So far 45 sto­ries and 13 in­dus­try projects will share more than AU$3 mil­lion in fund­ing.
