Collective Hub - - AT WORK - THRIVE AWAY

Silicon Valley-based workflow automation start-up Zapier is offering new hires a US$10,000 bonus to pack up and leave the Bay Area, giving employees a sizeable incentive to shirk the sky-rocketing costs of living in San Fran (Fortune dubbed the city’s housing market “utterly insane”). With 100 per cent of the company already working remotely, the bonus is “an experiment” aimed at improving employees’ lifestyles. “It can be a real challenge to turn the Bay Area into a lifelong home, rather than a short stop somewhere in our twenties and thirties,” says Zapier’s CEO Wade Foster. “You should be able to work wherever you want and still work at a place that helps you achieve your career goals. So if you’re living in the Bay Area, but thinking about making a change that will improve your family’s standard of living, we’re eager to help.”
