5 MINUTES WITH… ANDREA MOORE

Collective Hub - - STYLE MAKERS - Designer of her Auckland-based namesake label. GO-TO WORKDAY OUTFIT? FAVOURITE LABELS?

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

No two days are the same. Sketching and planning next season’s ranges; liaising with our fabric and garment suppliers; fittings; designing shoes, eyewear, handbags; model castings; choosing soundtracks for catwalk shows; sales and marketing meetings...

WHAT’S AT THE CORE OF ANDREA MOORE THE LABEL?

Colour and print! Our prints are exclusive, considered, layered and original. We work hard to develop prints pertinent to the theme of the collection. Each print often has wonderful symbology that we delve into, for example, the koi fish, which is a symbol of courage, good luck, endurance and survival, and the crane, which is all about peace and spirituality.

Distressed Andrea Moore denim, slouchy Andrea Moore merino knit and suede Andrea Moore ‘Walker’ boots.

I mostly wear our garments, but am inspired by Dries Van Noten, and love Stella McCartney for Adidas activewear.

TIPS FOR SHAKING UP YOUR WORK WARDROBE?

Colour blocking or using layers of tonal colour and texture to create shape. Think about the energy in an outfit, how it is either flat or creates character. Mixing contrasts works well, for example, feminine and masculine, silk with denim. Contrasts or twists create energy that displays your own unique personality.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU AT NEW ZEALAND FASHION WEEK LATER THIS MONTH?

Haha, nice try. You will have to wait and see. Needless to say, it will have the Andrea Moore DNA, with a twist.
