An Australian start-up aiming to be the IMDb of the music industry, Jaxsta, is a data-collection platform that aims to track down the people behind the music and give them kudos, from roadies to producers, photographers and video directors. With the evolution of digital music, we’ve lost the ‘jacket’ that used to come with CDs. To fill this gap, Jaxsta is building an online database spanning the history of recorded music, allowing fans to track every talented individual who contributed to a record. In August the company cut a deal with the Recording Academy (the organisation that produces the Grammy Awards). The database is yet to launch, but music nerds rejoice – soon you’ll be able to trace every element of a track back to its source.
