Muppet Sherlock Holmes

Comic Heroes - - Meet the Prose -

Seriously, this 2010 four-issue miniseries from Boom! Studios’ Boom Kids! imprint is one of the most absurdly faithful Holmes adaptations around. The Great Gonzo is the great detective; Fozzie Bear is Dr Watson; Kermit is Inspector Lestrade; Miss Piggy is Irene Adler, “Miss” Hudson, and various other female characters; and further members of the Muppet cast fill out the supporting roles.

Each story riffs on a classic Holmes tale, keeping the basic plot but adding all those things Doyle himself somehow neglected to include, such as jokes, slapstick, sight gags and bathos. Not to mention, in “The Red-Headed League”, bad ginger wigs.

As always with the Muppets, respect and irreverence go hand-in-hand – or should that be hand-in-feltpuppet?
