Death of Superman

Comic Heroes - - Feature -

Superman #75, January 1993

What happened? We all knew from the outset that the big, dumb, every-page-a-splash-panel fight that would “kill” Superman was a put-up job.

Why was it shocking? The ultra-conservative DC creative team played everything exactly as expected but it sold in a way nobody’d predicted, and laid the groundwork for a questionable future – soon Batman’s back would shatter, Spider-Man would be a clone, and event storylines would rule.
