Ones wins. One dies
Daredevil #181, April 1982
What happened? Bullseye, the premiere villain (Kingpin aside) of the Frank Miller Daredevil era, takes on ol’ hornhead’s mysteriously returned ninja ex-girlfriend Elektra – he slashes her throat, then skewers her on her own sai.
Why was it shocking? Daredevil was the most acclaimed book on the shelves in this period, and this is the pivotal issue. With everything shown from Bullseye’s highly unsympathetic point of view, Elektra – the hottest new character of the moment – becomes just one more meaningless obstacle in his way.
