One of 2000 AD’s most bizarre strips, Pat Mills and Kevin O’Neill’s Neme­sis tells a far-fu­ture tale of brave rebels in covert re­volt against a to­tal­i­tar­ian em­pire – the twist be­ing that people are the bad guys, the ugly aliens our he­roes. Chief amongst them is Neme­sis, a space-satyr who makes for a beau­ti­fully bizarre and un­know­able lead. Though oc­ca­sional sto­ry­lines ex­plore the War­lock’s home­world, what makes Neme­sis so ex­tra­or­di­nary is his in­her­ent mys­tery. We can see that the hu­man em­pire, tak­ing joint in­spi­ra­tion from the Span­ish In­qui­si­tion and the KKK, is evil from the off; Neme­sis, how­ever, we’re never quite sure about…
