Peter Doh erty

Comic Heroes - - Feature -

Doherty has worked for 2000 AD – he’s enhanced Judge Dredd on many an occasion, including in the classic “Bury My Knee At Wounded Heart”. More recently he’s been working with Mark Millar and Frank Quitely on Jupiter’s Legacy, and with Millar and Duncan Fegredo on MPH. Peter Doherty says: “The explosion is the brightest element in the picture, so I decided to make that the warmest part and, for contrast, to make the foreground figure much cooler. To soften the contrast, I played around with a few highlights on the figure where the light’s catching him, and some colours over the top of the linework to integrate the foreground and background while still keeping them distinct. There’s not much rendering to do as Mike’s drawing already has a great sense of volume; the trick is not to flatten that with the colour. I think that’s what I achieved anyhow!”
