At the start of the ’70s, Peter was again get­ting a lit­tle fed up with the job. In his land­mark 100th is­sue he used his sci­en­tific know-how to knock up a serum that he thought might re­move his spi­der pow­ers so he could set­tle down with Gwen Stacy. It had the re­verse ef­fect, turn­ing him into more spi­der than man, with four ex­tra arms. This is­sue was also the last with Stan Lee cred­ited as writer – it was down to new writer Roy Thomas, who took the reins in the next is­sue, to fig­ure out how to re­vert Peter to the con­ven­tional num­ber of limbs...
