The ’90s was all about big, brash, pow­er­ful su­per­heroes, and much of that was down to Todd McFar­lane. In Au­gust 1990 he turned his big-screen su­per-heroics on Spidey with the launch of a brand new Spi­der-Man book. This was also the age of mul­ti­ple vari­ant cov­ers, pre‑bagged col­lec­tor’s item edi­tions, and a bom­bas­tic re­turn to what some might now con­sider over-the-top ac­tion, with McFar­lane’s first arc fea­tur­ing the Lizard.
