Paranoid Tales of Neurosis: The Comi x Anthology

Comic Heroes - - State Of Independents -

Story & Art Joe Deagnon

The early years anthology from the left-field mind of horror-loving Canuck creator Joe Deagnon, this is 112 pages of underground counter-culture and nervy, explosive gut laughs. Deagnon is a huge film fan, and his enthusiasm for all things B-movie and horror related shines on through the pages, with guides to how to shoot a slasher film (complete with Jason and Leatherface cameos), an interview with an exploitation horror director, and Evil Dead references aplenty.

There’s a crooked, foul-mouthed bent to the humour, as scabrous as it is riotously funny, with swipes at corporate mentality, rock music, and sexual inadequacy. “Corporate Video Capers” packs all these traits into each page, the story straining to contain its ideas from rupturing acidic absurdity from every panel. Think Colin B. Morton and Chuck Death’s legendary Great

Pop Things crossed with Kevin Smith-style obscene slacker chat and you’re about halfway there. Original, dirty, and fun. Read it.
