PSYCH-ROCK­ERS JFK have claimed vic­tory at Gozzy Rock’s 30th an­niver­sary event at the Don Russell Per­form­ing Arts Cen­tre.

The judges awarded the five-piece the top prize af­ter be­ing im­pressed with its psychedelic gui­tar riffs, in­fec­tious Brit-Pop melodies and co­he­sive har­mony sec­tions.

Twenty-year-old Mitchell Martin, who was nom­i­nated for WAM’s Folk Song of the Year in 2016, fin­ished sec­ond, while Far­ra­day’s Cage won the en­cour­age­ment award. The 30th an­niver­sary event fea­tured 54 en­tries, in­clud­ing six fi­nal­ists, who vied for over $10,000 worth of prizes.

Last year’s win­ners Young Robin and 2014 win­ners Rak­sha were guest per­form­ers.
