A 71-YEAR-OLD woman from Kenwick has been fined after pleading guilty to possession of cannabis for her son.

Police said the woman’s house was raided in April and cannabis found in a coffee jar and other containers.

She was charged with possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply.

When she appeared in Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday, her lawyer said the woman held the drugs for her son, who had fallen three storeys from a building in his 20s resulting in severe injuries.

The lawyer said her son was on heavy medication, used a wheelchair and crutches, and cannabis eased chronic pain.

After the man had difficulties with people taking the drugs from his house in his invalid state, he stored the cannabis at his mother’s house.

Her lawyer said the mother wanted to help her son with his pain.

The magistrate said the mother had been put in a position no mother wanted to be in and fined her $750.
