RE­GARD­ING the let­ters about the burqa (Com­ment News, Septem­ber 26). I be­lieve in free­dom of re­li­gion. How­ever, the mat­ter of the burqa is only half there.

I un­der­stand that in Arab coun­tries where the burqa is worn, an adult male is sup­posed to chap­er­one the woman and is re­spon­si­ble for her be­hav­iour.

I sel­dom see that prac­tised over here. So if a woman in a burqa, or some­body dressed up like that, does some­thing il­le­gal or dan­ger­ous, it is hard to link it to any­body.
