Melville in easy first-innings win
MELVILLE have cruised to a first-innings victory over Gosnells after a dominant two-day performance at Sutherlands Park on Saturday.
Starting the day at 4-99, Gosnells were able to strike early, taking three wickets in the blink of an eye to have the Storm struggling on 7-109.
Some late-innings heroics from Mark Turner and Ryan Duffield saw Melville storm past Gosnells’ total with a 74-run eighth-wicket partnership that helped secure a first-innings victory.
Turner and the Storm continued to dispatch the ball to all areas of the ground, eventually declaring at 9-225 after Turner’s wonderful unbeaten 66, in an attempt to claim an outright victory.
Gosnells posted 164 in the second innings off the back of Jonathon Crowe (51) and Ben Green (40) scoring the bulk of the runs.
Ryan Duffield continued to frustrate Gosnells, taking 3-30 after taking 3-28 in the first innings. With a small target to chase down for outright victory, Melville simply ran out of time, falling short of Gosnells at 5-68.
