Send-off ends Cup bid for Armadale
ARMADALE Soccer Club has been bundled out of the FFA Cup after a heavy 4-0 loss to Cairns on Wednesday night.
Travelling to the other side of the country for the round of 32 match, Armadale was dealt a matchdefining blow when Beau Rahim was sent off in the 19th minute after the referee determined he had illegally denied Cairns a scoring opportunity.
Reduced to 10 men for the rest of the match, Armadale were able to contain Cairns in the first half to go into the main break with a scoreless draw, but the home team broke the deadlock shortly after returning to the field with a goal in the 53rd minute.
Cairns then scored in the 68th, 79th and 91st minutes.
According to Football West, as many as 50 Armadale fans made the 3500km trip to Cairns, a record distance for an FFA Cup tie.
Last week, Gwelup Croatia were also knocked out with a 4-0 loss to the Adelaide Comets.
Perth Glory, the only remaining WA team, play their round of 32 match against Melbourne Victory at Dorrien Gardens today.
