PERTH supporters of English Premier League giant Chelsea have promised plenty of noise when the club visits WA in 2018.

The four-time Premier League winners will play Perth Glory in an international friendly at Perth Stadium in July or August next year.

Thornlie resident Ossie Pereira is among more than 100 members of Chelsea’s Perth-based supporters club.

“Now that it has been confirmed, I’m over the moon.

“This game will certainly put WA on the football map and hopefully other English Premier League teams will think about coming here to play, as well as playing over east.”

With the fan experience about more than the on-field action, Mr Pereira said supporters were keen to ensure they generate plenty of noise.

“We’ll be singing all the Chelsea songs (in 2018) and I’m sure there will be plenty of support for Glory, too, as most of us from WA who will be at the game support both teams.”

The deal is expected to attract 15,000 interstate and international visitors and pour $15 million into WA shops, hotels, bars and other local attractions.

News coverage and activity on social media should also expose Perth to football fans around the world, including many of Chelsea’s 400 million supporters.

Local players are set to benefit too, with open training sessions and training clinics to form part of the club’s stay.
