THE Department of Housing says it has yet to find a development partnership model for a group of vacant lots in Maddington.

Department of Housing general manager of commercial operations Nigel Hindmarsh said lots 221 and 222 on Corfu Way and lot 223 Orr Street were originally purchased from the City of Gosnells to provide affordable housing consistent with the City’s Central Maddington Outline Development Plan.

Gosnells councillor Bill Wiffen and Gosnells MLA Chris Tallentire are both keen for the land to be used as public housing.

Mr Hindmarsh said the department had examined a number of proposals, all of which would incorporate affordable housing opportunities such as shared equity, affordable, full sale and social housing

“Housing is yet to find a development partnership model for these lots that meets its requirements in terms of affordable housing outcomes and financial viability,” he said.

“Housing continues to examine possibilities for the site that may deliver the required social and economic outcomes Bill Wiffen and Chris Tallentire at one of the sites.

that suit the locality. In the meantime the site is being maintained in good order.”

Councillor Wiffen said something had to be done as the land was sitting there.

“It’s a funny situation, when you have so many good blocks with roads and footpaths and no houses on there and people are now just dumping rubbish there,” he said.

Gosnells MLA Chris Tallentire said he wrote to Housing

Minister Brendon Grylls last month asking for an update.

Mr Tallentire said he wanted a decision to be made on what was happening with this space. “I want to express my frustration that this isn’t moving on,” he said.

Liberal candidate for Thornlie Rob Coales said the area needed revitalising.

“The whole area of Maddington needs to be regenerated,” he said.
