Kyler Rowson’s oil paintings of arachnids. CANNING Vale resident Kyler Rowson’s love for animals and spiders inspired her artwork that will be displayed at the Year 12 Perspectives exhibition.

Year 12 Perspectives shows off some of the best artwork from last year’s Year 12 students at the Art Gallery of WA.

Kyler said she decided to create Arachnophobia because she had always had a love for animals and wanted to show that spiders were not that scary.

“I have lots of family members that have arachnophobia. I just love spiders and I think more people should be less afraid,” she said.

The Applecross Senior High School graduate said she took the photos that inspired her Arachnophobia artwork and then sketched the design on to wooden blocks before using oil on wood to paint it.

She said she spent almost 20 hours per week for at least six weeks finishing the six designs.

She is studying marine science at Murdoch University this year.

The artwork will be on show at the gallery until April 2.

As part of exhibition, Kyler will give a free talk at the Art Gallery of WA on March 11 between 2pm and 3pm to discuss her work. Go to for more.
