ARMADALE Council voted unanimously to reject plans to develop a demolition waste screening and crushing facility on Lot 245 Keane Road in Brookdale after strong community opposition.

Councillors sided with 395 petitioners against the proposed development by Bowman and Associates.

The City’s Development and Services Committee found the plans inappropriate due to the proximity of residents and potential risks from handling industrial debris, including asbestos or material contaminated with toxic chemicals.

The decision came despite approval, subject to conditions, from the Department of Environmental Regulation (DER), the City’s Health Department and initial approval from the Development and Services committee.

The DER and applicant will be informed by the council of the decision.
